Origin
Its vines are planted in the steep valleys and precipitous gorges of the Rivers Miño and Sil as they wind through Galicia’s lush green countryside.
It is lowland, with generally less than 300 m altitude, near the sea and related to the lower reaches of the rivers.
Ribeiro is located at the confluence of the valleys formed by the Miño, Avia, Arnoia and Barbantiño rivers.
Landscape wines are produced in O Ribeiro and Monterrei valleys, influenced by the climate – Atlantic characteristics with a gentle influence from the Mediterranean climate – and the mix of native varieties such as Treixadura, Torrontés and Godello.
At the end of the 19th century, products were linked to their origin and in 1925 the Rioja Denomination of Origin was recognized, being the first Denomination of Origin in Spain. It is distributed in the territory of the three riverside provinces of the upper Ebro: La Rioja, Álava and Navarra.
