SITUATION

Landforms have contributed to form a natural region, which is perfectly bounded and distinguished from those that surround it,although administratively the 62,000 hectares of vineyard, currently protected by the denomination, are distributed in the territory of the three provinces along the Upper Ebro riverside course.

THE CLIMATE

It is protected at its northern limit by the Sierra de Cantabria and to the south by the Sierra de la Demanda, the entire area benefits from the confluence of two climates as opposite as the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, which provides mild temperatures and higher annual rainfall at 400 l / m2, very suitable conditions for the development of the vine.

THE SOIL

The most characteristic Rioja soil type is also highly suitable for quality viticulture, since it has a balanced structure (sands, silts and clays), is slightly alkaline, poor in organic matter and with moderate water availability during the summer.
